Coaching happens in the learner app, never in the back-office. The coach opens Coaching, picks someone under My learners, schedules a milestone covering one to five skills, then assesses it once the meeting has taken place. The learner finds the same milestones under My coaches.
Coach or team leader
Both roles are granted in the same place, the Roles tab, and often sit on the same person. The gesture is what differs. The team leader types a level straight into My team: the value overwrites the previous one, with no date and no author. The coach assigns a level at the end of a milestone: that write is dated and kept, it never goes down, it can no longer be changed once confirmed, and it is the only one that awards a skill certificate.
For the team leader’s entry screen, go to Handing field assessment to the team leader.
The pages in this section
- Configuring coaching: read this before appointing the first coach, because the group you pick decides who they will support and that choice is hard to walk back.
- Milestone templates: read this if you are looking to prepare reusable milestones. The feature has not shipped; the page says what stands in for it in the meantime.
- Common problems: read this when a coach cannot see their learners, has far too many of them, or does not use the feature at all.
Going further
- Assigning roles in a group: where the Coach role is granted, alongside the other three.
- Assessing and following skills: the three routes that move a level, and the one the coach takes.
- Mastery levels: the scale the coach places the learner on, to be set before the first milestone.
- Skills and coaches analytics: milestones created, milestones completed, and the average level each coach assigns.
