Understanding trainings
In the back office, a training is anything you create from the Create a training window: a training capsule, a training session or a training interest. This section covers what you build. Deciding who receives it is covered in Understanding distribution.

All three types are capsules
A session and an interest are not separate objects: they are capsules with a different registration mode. A Training session asks learners to register for a scheduled slot. A Training interest collects learners’ needs and interest. A Training capsule asks for no registration.
This is why the editor says capsule everywhere, whichever type you chose. All three types are made reachable in the same ways: through a track, the To be displayed on the catalogue of setting, or a custom diffusion rule that targets groups.
What a training needs before it can be published
A training cannot be published until the following elements are in place.
For every type:
- a title;
- at least one category;
- a way of being reached: at least one track, a catalogue set in To be displayed on the catalogue of, or a custom diffusion rule that targets groups.
Also required for a training capsule:
- a description;
- at least one notion;
- notions and quizzes without blocking errors;
- if the capsule is completed by passing selected notions, at least one selected notion.
Also required for a training interest:
- a description.
A training interest and a training session can be published without any notion.
As long as a required element is missing, the Schedule tab of the editor shows This capsule is incomplete. It cannot be published at the moment. and you can neither publish the training nor set a publication date. The message says capsule whichever type you are editing.
For publishing steps and dates, see Publishing a capsule.
The three pages in this section
- Capsule trainings: the ways to start a capsule, what you put inside it and how several people work on the same content.
- Training sessions: trainings joined on a date, with slots, seats, registrations to process and attendance to record.
- Training interests: measure a need before producing any content.
If creating content does not give the result you expected, see Common problems: creating content.
