The Getting Started learning path
⚠️ Required permissions: the Create and edit the Getting Started learning path permission under Engagement. This permission is separate from those used to create or manage content.
The Getting Started learning path is the only content on the platform that can be shown to a learner without going through standard group-based distribution. It appears on their first login, before the rest of the app, and disappears once completed.
Understand how the learning path is distributed
A standard learning path becomes available to a learner when it is assigned to a group they belong to. To learn more, see Model 2: distributing content through learning paths.
The Getting Started learning path works differently: it is linked directly to the account. You do not need to assign it to groups or configure its distribution.
This makes it useful even before your learner segmentation has been fully set up. It can therefore be used as the first content shown to learners when launching the platform. See Pilot and launch.
⚠️ Learners must still belong to at least one group. An account that does not belong to any group cannot access any content on the platform, including the Getting Started learning path.
Only one Getting Started learning path can exist per account. It does not appear in the standard learning path list and can only be managed from the Getting Started tab.
What learners see on their first login
When learners log in for the first time, the app displays the Getting Started learning path instead of the home screen.
What they see depends on the number of capsules it contains:
- with a single capsule, it opens immediately with no intermediate screen;
- with several capsules, learners see the list of capsules and cannot close this screen.
Once all capsules have been completed, the app opens normally.
⚠️ This screen is displayed only while no activity has yet been recorded for the learner. As soon as activity is recorded elsewhere in the app, for example on another capsule or an In practice action, the Getting Started learning path no longer opens automatically, even if it has not been completed.
💡 Tip: keep this learning path short. Because it blocks access to the rest of the app until it is completed, use it to explain what the platform is for and how it works rather than to deliver a full training course.
Configure the learning path
Go to Engagement > Getting Started.
Enable Activate the introduction learning path to create the learning path.
Then click Add a capsule to add an existing capsule. Each capsule card also includes a delete button that removes the capsule from the learning path without deleting it from the library.
The cards display key information about each capsule:
- its status;
- the number of points available;
- the number of concepts;
- the number of views.
This makes it easy to identify, for example, a capsule that has not yet been published.
The Getting Started learning path intentionally offers only a limited set of configuration options: you cannot rename it, change the order of its capsules or configure its distribution.
When created, it is named Introduction learning path. This is also the name displayed to learners when the learning path contains several capsules.
Two behaviors to be aware of
Disabling the learning path deletes it. It is not simply paused. If you enable it again later, a new empty learning path is created and you will need to add the capsules again.
A capsule the learner cannot access does not block access to the app. A capsule that is still Under review or subject to an unmet visibility condition is not shown to the learner.
If none of the capsules in the Getting Started learning path are accessible to them, the app opens normally and the learner is not required to go through the learning path.
Test the learning path before launch
Test the learning path from a learner’s perspective rather than as an administrator. See Log in as a learner.
⚠️ Use an account with no previous activity on the platform. Otherwise, the Getting Started learning path will not open automatically.
