Understanding the area manager's role
Understanding the area manager’s role
🚧 Role coming, expected early 2027. This page describes what the role is intended to cover. It does not exist in the product today, and no screen corresponds to it yet.
You cover several teams. Where a team leader follows their own learners, you follow the leaders of several teams. This page explains what the role is meant to give you, what it is deliberately not, and what you can do while waiting for it.
What the role is meant to give you
A training department reads averages. A team leader reads their own team. Between the two, nobody looks at the gap between two teams that received exactly the same content.
That gap is what the role is designed to show. Two teams given the same trainings, one at 40% and the other at 90%, do not have a content problem. They have a rollout problem, and it becomes visible only when the teams are placed side by side.
What the role is not
It is not back-office access. The role is designed for the learner app, without administration screens, settings or rights over content. Some organisations currently give a full administrator profile to a regional manager because nothing else exists. The role is intended to remove that need.
It is not a team leader with a larger team. A team leader follows learners. An area manager is meant to compare teams and spot the ones falling behind, which is a different task.
It is not a separate status. Like every other role, an area manager remains a learner and follows their own trainings. See Discovering the app.
Why your account structure decides what you will see
The perimeter of the role is intended to be the set of teams whose leaders you supervise. What a future screen can show therefore depends on how those teams are built in Beedeez today, not on the delivery date.
Structuring your teams correctly is useful on its own, and it conditions what the role will be worth later. See Preparing for the role.
What you can do in the meantime
The figures already exist and an administrator can read them. Ask your administrator or your Beedeez contact for a regular extract per team rather than waiting for a screen. See Exports and reporting.
Comparing two teams only makes sense if they received the same content. Check that point before reading anything into a gap. See Comparing your teams.
🔧 On the administrator side. The role sits between two existing levels. The administrator works in the back office and sees their whole department. The Team Leader works in the app and follows the learners of their group. The area manager is intended to fill the level in between, by covering several teams and the leaders who run them.
🔧 Do not confuse it with a department. A department partitions administration: what is inside it does not exist for the others. It is structural, and it is a configuration object. An area manager partitions nothing and looks at a set of teams that stay in the same perimeter. It is a role, not a structure, and a network can need both: one department per banner, and area managers inside each. See Modelling your organisation.
