Preparing for the role
Preparing for the role
🚧 Role coming, expected early 2027. This page describes what to prepare in the meantime, not a delivered screen.
What the role will show you depends on how your account is structured today. Teams that exist only as distribution lists produce comparisons between populations matching no real team. This page lists what is worth asking your administrator for now, and what you can already obtain without the role.
None of the points below is specific to the area manager. Each one is useful on its own, and together they decide what the role will be worth later.
Ask for teams that exist as teams
This is the point most often missed. Many accounts build groups in order to distribute content: a group covering all the sales staff of a country works well for sending a training and corresponds to no real team. If your stores are not set up as distinct groups, you will have nothing to compare.
A learner belongs to as many groups as needed, and their accesses add up. Creating one group per store therefore does not force your administrator to give up the wide groups used for distribution. Both can exist side by side.
Ask for a leader identified on each team
You will supervise team leaders. The Team Leader role already exists and is granted on a group, from the back office. A team with no appointed leader leaves you with nobody to supervise on that team.
The role is useful on its own. A team leader follows the learners of their group from the My Team tab of the learner application, without any back-office access.
Check that your teams received the same content
Comparing two teams that did not receive the same trainings tells you nothing about either of them. This can be checked today: on a group’s edit screen, the Related tracks card lists the tracks that population receives.
Ask for that check across your whole area before drawing any conclusion from a gap between two teams.
Decide what you expect from the role
Settle this before the role arrives, because the two possible answers do not lead to the same use.
Spotting what is falling behind. A team that is not moving, a site where the rollout did not take. This is the use the role is designed for.
Ranking teams. This one is riskier. A completion rate measures what has been followed, not what is known, and turning it into a competition produces completion rates rather than competence. See Comparing your teams.
What you can obtain in the meantime
Two options limit the problem without replacing the role.
A regular export per team. An administrator can filter a statistics export by groups and send you the result. The figures already exist; what is missing is a screen that brings them to you.
Read-only access to the statistics. The Statistics profile opens the platform’s statistics and nothing else, and its perimeter can be restricted to a list of named groups.
⚠️ Two limits apply to that second option. It remains back-office access granted to someone working in the field, so ask for it only where it is genuinely needed. And a right restricted to a named list of groups does not extend by itself: a store opened later is not added to the list, and you will not see it until your administrator updates the profile.
🔧 On the administrator side, four workstreams. Groups that match real teams rather than the distribution cut, knowing that both can coexist. The Team Leader role granted on each of those groups. Dynamic groups fed by your HRIS, without which a fine-grained cut does not survive thirty stores. And homogeneous distribution across the area, checked from the tracks linked to each group. See Understanding groups, Dynamic groups, Setting up a team leader and Viewing and managing the tracks linked to a group. For the statistics profile and its group restriction, see Assigning rights.
