Handing field assessment to the team leader
A team leader assesses skills from their own learner app, never from the back-office. This page describes what they can do, what their entry becomes in your statistics, and what it does not do. For the three readings of a level, see Assessing and following skills.
Handing field assessment to the team leader
A team leader assesses skills from their own learner app, never from the back-office. This page describes what they can do, what their entry becomes in your statistics, and what it does not do. For the three readings of a level, see Assessing and following skills.
⚠️ Prerequisites: the framework must contain at least one active skill, and the person must hold the team leader role on a group that contains the learner. The role is granted from the group’s Roles tab, in Define the team leader(s). See Setting up a team leader.
Where the assessment happens
The My team tab appears in the app as soon as someone is the team leader of at least one group. From there, the path is the Learners tab, then a learner from the list, then the Acquired skills block of their User report.
The Evaluate button opens Evaluate skills / Manager. Two actions are possible in this sheet:
- Add a skill: open the Select a skill field, whose placeholder reads Choose a skill…, then choose a level under Select a level.
- Change an existing assessment: tap the skill directly in the Acquired skills block. The skill picker gives way to Current levels, and only the level can be changed.
Levels appear as chips carrying the rank and the name of the level, for example “2 | Competent”. Confirm saves the entry and closes the sheet. Close dismisses it without writing anything. No confirmation message is displayed: the sheet closes and the line appears on the skill. See Mastery levels.
The same screen is used in the mobile app and in the browser version of the learner app.
What the team leader can reach
A team leader only reaches the learners of the groups they lead. The skill picker offers every active skill of the account, minus those already carried by that learner. It is not restricted to the skills attached to the content the learner has taken.
The Acquired skills block lists only the skills that already carry a level. It shows four tiles, then a See more button. When the learner has none, the block displays No skills evaluated. Each tile stacks up to three lines: Theoretical, Manager and Coach.
What the entry becomes
The entry is a statistic. It feeds the Manager Level column of a skill’s detailed report and the Average manager level figure. Both are distinct from the coach’s level, which comes from coaching milestones, and from the Theoretical Level, derived from the content the learner has taken. See Skills and coaches analytics.
What the entry does not do
It awards no certificate. A skill-based certificate is triggered by the level a coach assigns when evaluating a milestone, and by that level alone. See The skill-based certificate.
It changes neither the theoretical level nor the coach’s level. The three readings sit side by side without overwriting each other.
It keeps no history and no supporting note. A new entry overwrites the previous one, without date or author, and no comment can be attached.
It notifies nobody. The learner receives neither a notification nor an email.
What the learner sees
The learner’s profile carries a My skills block, where a Manager line appears next to Theoretical and Coach. The learner discovers the value without being told, and without knowing who set it.
💡 Tip: ask the team leader to announce their assessment to the learner. The screen does not do it for them, and a level that appears without explanation is often disputed.
Points to watch
⚠️ A level 0 chip, “0 | Not Acquired”, is recorded but never displayed. A Manager line only appears when the level is above zero. The value is still stored and still counts in Average manager level: the average can be pulled down by assessments that nobody sees on screen. To mean that a skill is not acquired yet, leave it out of the assessment.
⚠️ The Evaluate button follows the framework, not the learner. When no skill is active, it opens an empty picker. When every skill of the account already carries a line for that learner, the button disappears and changes go through the skill’s tile instead. See Building the skills framework.
