Enriching your capsules with external content

This section covers the content you did not build with the Beedeez authoring formats: a module produced in another tool, a web page, a video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo, a provider's resource library, or a training that takes place outside the platform altogether. Each route has its own setup, its own limits and its own reporting, and picking the wrong one is usually noticed only once learners open the capsule.

Enriching your capsules with external content

This section covers the content you did not build with the Beedeez authoring formats: a module produced in another tool, a web page, a video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo, a provider’s resource library, or a training that takes place outside the platform altogether. Each route has its own setup, its own limits and its own reporting, and picking the wrong one is usually noticed only once learners open the capsule.

What the learner’s device has to fetch

Most external content is played from its host. Beedeez displays it, the file stays with the provider, and the learner needs a connection to open it. Web Content cards, H5P Content cards, YouTube and Vimeo videos, Edflex resources and External Content cards all work this way, including H5P activities, which are built inside Beedeez but always loaded over the network.

An imported SCORM module is the exception. The package is stored by Beedeez, and the mobile app downloads it onto the device, so the learner can play it with no connection.

⚠️ Content played from its host does not work offline. In the mobile app, a learner with no connection gets an empty area, and nothing warns them before they open the card. On field teams, that is usually the deciding factor: see Offline mode.

What comes back into your statistics

A capsule records that the learner went through its cards, whatever those cards contain. Beyond that, the routes differ.

An imported SCORM module writes its own completion, success and score. An external content source can report a completion, when the provider calls the address Beedeez hands it at launch. Stellia returns where the learner stands on its path. A web page, an H5P activity and a hosted video report nothing at all: a card that failed to display is passed exactly like a card that was read.

💡 Advice: when a training has to be measured or proven, carry the assessment on an imported SCORM module or on a native quiz, and keep the other formats for practice and illustration.

Declaring a source, or adding content to a capsule

Some of these routes need a configuration made once, for the whole account, before anything can be placed in a capsule.

Declaring a source describes one provider: its address, how it authenticates you, and how it reports results. An External Content card then selects that configuration by name. This is the route to take when the provider identifies the learner and can report that they finished.

Adding content to a capsule needs no prior declaration. You open the capsule editor, add the card, then paste an address, upload a package or build the activity there.

🔧 Administrator side. External content sources are declared under Configuration > Integrations > LMS, in the External content configuration block. Edflex and Stellia are enabled elsewhere, under Configuration > Integrations > External Services, in the Other Integrations block.

Setting up a provider

  • Configuring an external content source: the generic building block, its authentication modes, its display modes and the way completions come back. Start here when your provider has no dedicated integration.
  • Adding Edflex content to a capsule: connecting an Edflex contract, then searching its resources from the capsule editor.
  • Stellia adaptive mode: the adaptive engine, either on a capsule switched to adaptive mode, or on an external content source whose Method to get results is set to Stellia.
