Embedding a web page or web tool (Genially, Klaxoon…)

A Web Content card displays a web page inside a capsule: a Genially, a Klaxoon, a dashboard or an online document. You paste the address of the page, and the learner opens it without leaving the capsule. This is not the same thing as configuring an external content source, which declares a provider for the whole account, with authentication and completion reporting.

Add a Web Content card

  1. Open the capsule in the editor and go to the notion that should contain the page.
  2. Click Add a card, then select the Web Content format.
  3. Enter the title of the card.
  4. Paste the address of the page in the Web content field.
  5. Tick Force new window if the page must open outside the capsule.

Messages displayed under the address

As soon as an address is entered, Beedeez requests the page from its own servers and can display one of three messages under the field:

  • Invalid URL: the address cannot be read as a valid address.
  • Unsafe URL: the address does not start with https.
  • The content is protected, it will open in a new window: the site refuses to be displayed inside a frame.

These messages also appear in the capsule quality report. A missing or invalid address is reported there as an error, while an address that is not secure and a page that refuses to be framed are reported as warnings.

What the learner sees

On the mobile app, the page is displayed inside the app. A site that refuses to be framed is not affected, because the app does not use a frame. On the web, the page is displayed in a frame inside the capsule.

The page opens outside the capsule in two cases: when Force new window is ticked, and, on the web only, when the check concluded that the site refuses to be framed. The page then opens in a separate window on the web and in the phone browser on mobile. In the capsule, the card shows the capsule cover image and the sentence Your link has opened in another window.

On Android, an address that returns a PDF file is opened in the app’s document reader instead of a web view.

⚠️ On the web, a popup blocker makes this detour fail silently. The message stays on screen in front of a window that never opened, and no retry is offered.

No identity is passed to the page

The page is requested as an anonymous visitor: the Beedeez account, the session token and the authentication cookies are not transmitted, and there is no single sign-on. A page that requires a login therefore displays its own sign-in screen inside the capsule. Choose an address that can be read without an account and that is reachable from the learner’s network.

Two limits of the framing check

The check looks at only one of the two ways a site can refuse to be framed: the X-Frame-Options header. A site that refuses through the frame-ancestors directive passes the check without a message, and the learner sees an empty area with no error.

The check also runs only while you type the address, from the Beedeez servers. A site that starts refusing to be framed later keeps a card that no longer displays anything, and a page that answers the Beedeez servers can still be blocked by the learner’s own network.

💡 Test the card on a real device, with a learner account, outside the company network. A page that works at your desk can fail for the learner.

What the card reports back

Nothing that the learner does inside the embedded page is sent back to Beedeez. The page is only displayed: it produces no score and no completion signal of its own, and a page that fails to display is passed exactly like a page that was read.

For the same reason, a broken address is never detected automatically. A page that is deleted, moved or expired keeps its card, with no alert in the back office.

💡 Check that the page adapts to a phone screen. The card keeps the format of the source page, so a page designed for a desktop screen stays hard to read on the app. When only a few key points matter, a text and image card is often easier to follow than an embedded page.
