Activity formats

Prerequisites: none for most formats. 3D model, External Content and Edflex Content only appear in the list when the matching option is active; Simulation stays greyed out with the note "Contact our sales team to activate the AI agent" until the AI agent is enabled. Permissions needed: the ones that already let you edit the capsule.

Activity formats

Prerequisites: none for most formats. 3D model, External Content and Edflex Content only appear in the list when the matching option is active; Simulation stays greyed out with the note “Contact our sales team to activate the AI agent” until the AI agent is enabled. Permissions needed: the ones that already let you edit the capsule.

This page lists what you can put inside a notion. The format decides what the learner does, and therefore what they retain. For the assembly itself, see Creating a capsule from scratch.

How a capsule is built

A capsule is made of notions. A notion carries:

  • one or more cards, what the learner reads, watches or listens to. The button reads Add a card;
  • an End quiz, what they do to check what stuck;
  • optionally an Entry quiz, placed before the content.

Each card has its own type. Each quiz has its own, and it groups questions that each have theirs.

⚠️ The three levels are not interchangeable. The quiz type you choose decides which question types are offered. It is the constraint that surprises people most, and it is stated on each format below.

The formats, one by one

What the learner reads, watches or listens to. A notion can carry several cards: the button reads "Add a card". They are listed here in the order of the editor.

Choosing, in practice

Vary formats across a track, not inside one capsule. Variety holds attention from one capsule to the next; inside a single one, it disorients.

The use case for what is learnt by doing. A gesture or a reaction to a situation cannot be checked with a multiple-choice question.

Test on a phone. Some formats are built for the thumb (Swipe Cards, Flash cards), others become painful on a small screen: a Label matching over a busy image, an Infographic designed for a desktop screen.

A capsule is never defined by its duration. It ranges from a few notions between two tasks to a full training course: the content decides, not the clock.

Settings that apply to questions

Max delay. A maximum answer time is set question by question, on every quiz type except Iterative. ⚠️ Below 5 seconds the quiz stops being timed at all: the setting is ignored.

Point Bonus. When a delay is set, 1 to 2 reward points are awarded depending on how fast the answer comes.

Option order. Two choices: “Answers are displayed in a random order” or “Answers are display in the original order”. Random order applies by default, so learners cannot memorise where the right answer sits.

Random quiz. Drawing a subset of questions on each run. The option only appears beyond 3 questions, and Number of questions asked never goes below 3.

Answer’s explanation. Every question can carry an explanation, shown after the answer. It is the best effort-to-benefit ratio in all of content creation.

What the AI can do

The AI generates four question types: Unique choice, Multiple choice, True or False and Order. It can also adapt an existing question into another of those four. It generates whole quizzes too, except Quizz with life and Evaluation, which are filled in by hand. The manipulative formats stay in your hands: Hot spot, Label matching, Gap fill and Swipe Cards are neither generated nor adapted by the AI.

See Generating a capsule with AI.

The trap

⚠️ Changing the type of a card or a question erases its content. A message warns you: “Are you sure you want to change the type of this card ? (content will be deleted)”. If the AI can adapt the question to the new format, it offers to; otherwise you start over.

⚠️ Some formats require a minimum mobile app version. The editor shows a warning triangle with the version expected. A learner who has not updated will not see the activity correctly.

What it does not do

Battle mode turns the capsule into a duel between learners, and Adaptive mode adjusts the path through it based on answers. Those are capsule settings, not formats: they change nothing about what you can put inside a notion.
