Offline mode
Offline mode
🚧 Coming soon. This page is being prepared and its content may still change.
Offline mode lets you open content that is already stored on your device when you have no connection. While you use the app with a connection, it downloads the images, videos and sounds of your content in the background, and it sends your progress back to the platform once you are online again.
Offline mode only exists in the mobile app. In a browser, content needs a connection at all times and the Offline settings are not shown.
The app downloads your content on its own
There is no button to save a capsule for later. As soon as the app retrieves your content with a connection, it downloads the media in the background: capsule and track images, videos uploaded to Beedeez, podcasts and the sounds placed in content pages.
Downloads run in small batches while you use the app. They pick up where they left off when you reopen the app and when you get a connection back. A capsule you have just opened is therefore not necessarily stored in full yet.
A SCORM module behaves differently: it is downloaded the first time you open it, not in advance. Open it once with a connection if you want it available later.
💡 Tip: open the app on Wi-Fi before you leave without a connection. Videos are heavy. On mobile data they take a long time to download and use up your data allowance.
Setting how much space the app may use
The Offline section of your settings sets how much room the app may take on your device for downloaded media.
- Open your settings, then go to the Offline section.
- Move the slider under Maximum disk space until it shows the value you want, up to 2 GB.
- Release the slider. The new limit applies immediately.
The value displayed above the slider is the limit currently in force. Your administrator sets the starting value for the account, and the value you choose replaces it.
If you set a limit lower than what is already stored, the app deletes downloaded files, starting with the largest, until it is back under the limit. Those files return to the download list and come down again later if there is room.
If you set the limit to 0, the app stops downloading the media of your capsules.
⚠️ Some files are downloaded whatever the limit is. Track images, your company logo, your platform’s background image and profile pictures are downloaded even when the space you set is already used up.
If a download fails, see Common problems.
Clearing the downloaded SCORM modules
The Offline storage part of the same section deletes the SCORM modules stored on your device.
- Select Clear storage.
- In the confirmation window Do you want to delete offline learning content?, select Clear storage again.
The app confirms with the message Offline storage successfully cleared. The button stays unavailable as long as no SCORM module is stored on the device.
Clearing this storage is not permanent: a module is downloaded again the next time you open it with a connection.
Offline storage is not shown when you use the app on a shared device.
Working without a connection
You can open the content whose media is already stored on the device. Your progress is saved on the device, then sent to the platform the next time the app has a connection. Until that happens, it stays on the device.
Open the app with a connection from time to time, especially before the deadline of a mandatory training. A few seconds are enough.
💡 Tip: your settings show Last synchronization and Last successful synchronization. Compare the two dates to check that your progress has been sent.
What offline mode does not cover
- Content whose media has not come down yet does not display in full without a connection. Downloading runs in the background, so content added just before you leave may be incomplete.
- YouTube and Vimeo videos are never downloaded. Nothing warns you before you open the page. A video uploaded to Beedeez does play offline. See YouTube and Vimeo videos.
- Web content and external links are not downloaded. Without a connection, the page shows an error message. See Embedding a web page or tool.
Going further
- Managing your account and preferences: the app’s other settings, shared device mode included.
- Common problems: a download that fails, progress still showing as not completed.
- Technical requirements: the free space to plan for on devices.
- General options: on the administrator side, the account’s default cache size.
