Learner devices

On a smartphone

Which app to install depends on the choice made for your account: your own white-label app, or Beedeez Training, already published on the App Store and Google Play. See The mobile app: white label or Beedeez Training.

iOS: the app requires iOS 15.5 or later.

Android: the app requires Android 7.0 or later.

Below those versions, the store does not offer the app on the device. No installation stops halfway through.

To read a device’s version: on iOS, open Settings > General > About; on Android, open Settings > About phone.

💡 Tip: check the real device fleet before committing to an opening date. Company devices in stores and warehouses are usually older than office ones. An install test on ten field devices tells you more than a theoretical inventory.

Free storage on the device

Offline mode stores content on the device. On a full phone the download fails, and the error message does not always name the cause.

How much content the app may keep offline is a per-account limit. You set it under Configuration > General settings, in the Offline settings block, with the Default cache size field. The value runs from 0 to 2 GB and is 300 MB until it is changed; each learner can then change it from their own app settings. See General options.

That limit caps what the app keeps; it does not replace the free storage needed on the device itself. Leave headroom on the device, especially if your content includes video.

On a computer

An up-to-date browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

Offline mode only exists in the mobile app: a learner using a browser needs a network connection the whole time.

💡 Tip: check locked-down workstations before opening. A browser held on an old version by internal policy counts as an outdated browser.

Network connectivity

Offline mode covers areas without coverage, on two conditions:

  • downloading happens while there is a network, ideally on Wi-Fi, before leaving;
  • progress made offline is stored on the device, then sent when the network returns, not before.

Until a learner reconnects, their progress is visible neither to them on another device nor to their manager. See Offline mode.

The corporate network

Filtering on managed devices differs from the desk workstation. YouTube for instance, can b blocked in some companies, or on some specific networks: a video that plays on your workstation may not open in store.

Test from a field device, on the field network, before opening. This test is often run too late, although it determines whether learners can actually reach the content.

The back office

A computer and an up-to-date browser. The back office is built for a wide screen: it works on a tablet, but content editing there is uncomfortable.

Notifications

Two settings must be on for a notification to reach a learner’s phone:

  • in the learner app, the Notification settings screen carries the Receive notifications on my phone option; this is the one that allows notifications sent by Beedeez. The neighbouring Receive email notifications option only covers emails;
  • the permission granted to the app in the phone’s own settings.

ℹ️ Good to know. On company-managed devices, the phone permission is sometimes denied by default at fleet level. That is fixed in the fleet management tool, not from Beedeez.

For the administrator-side setup, see Notifications.

The app version

Some features require a minimum mobile app version. The back office flags it when you make the choice, with a warning naming the expected version.

This is the case for the track validation mode Success of mandatory capsules: the back office then displays The mandatory capsules validation mode is available in mobile app from version 12.54.0. See Creating a track. Some activity formats also require a minimum version, flagged the same way, see Activity formats.

The app updates through the app stores. A learner who has not updated stays on the old version and cannot use these features. On a fleet that rarely updates, check this before relying on them, especially for regulatory content.

A learner can read their version in the app: the App version line shows the number installed. That information helps when you report a problem to support.
