Social learning

Prerequisite: the Tips option on the account. Without it your learners have nothing to post, and the tips rights do not even show up in a permission set. The Configuration › Social Learning menu itself is there on every account: the switches sit on its pages, one page at a time.

Behind the name, one surface ships: the feed, the stream in the learner app. Learners post tips there, the platform adds posts of its own, and people read, comment and react underneath. There is no chat room between learners.

The Social Learning menu holds five pages, two of which belong to other sections: Team management and Learn together. This section covers the other three, User generated content, Feed area and Communities.

What decides which page you open

You are opening the feed for the first time, or setting who posts what: The feed. You are wondering whether your learners can talk to each other in a chat room: Chat groups. Everything is set up and something does not show: Common problems.

The articles

  • The feed: the page to read to set the whole thing up. Who sees it, who posts which type of tip, what validation commits you to, the animators who pin, the widgets without which the feed stays empty, and communities.
  • Chat groups: read this before promising your teams a group conversation, since there is none today, and to know what stands in for it.
  • Common problems: empty feed, widget added but invisible, a posted tip that shows up nowhere, learners who do not see the same thing.

What this section does not cover

Comments under a piece of content. A comment is attached to one capsule or one tip, it is not configured from the feed and it is not read back in the same place. See Collecting learner feedback: forum and comments.

The tips you create yourself. The feed only governs what learners publish from the app. See Tips and their variants.

The conversation between a learner and their coach. It is one to one and lives elsewhere. See Coaching.

Rankings, battles and the user profile, set from Learn together, alongside sessions. See Gamification and engagement and Training sessions.

What a team leader pushes to their team, set from Team management. See Setting up a team leader.
