Tips and their variants

A tip is a short piece of content you consult, where a capsule is something you work through. It is not assessed and it does not sit inside a track: the learner meets it in their feed or finds it by searching. Views are counted, and the tips statistics do show a completion rate, but nothing there measures understanding. If you have to prove someone understood, that is a capsule and not a tip. See Capsule trainings.

The type is chosen at creation

The Create a tips button on the tips list offers four types: Information tips, Question tips, Video tips and Document tips. The type decides what the tip can carry and the shape in which the learner meets it. It decides neither who has access to it, nor the category that will make it findable.

A product card is a tip too, with its own screen and its own fields, and it is not created from that list. See Product cards.

Three uses, not three types

The three pages that follow do not describe product types: they describe three ways of using tips. What changes from one page to the next is the relationship the learner has with the content.

  • News: read this when the information matters today and a lot less in three months, and its removal has to be planned at publication time.
  • Memos: read this when the learner has already learned and wants to check one precise point, without being taught again.
  • Procedures: read this when the content is opened during the task itself, one step at a time.

What happens at publication

A tip published from the back office goes out straight away. A tip created by a learner from the app depends on an account option, and it goes through a validation step when its type requires one: the answer can be a refusal, and a refusal takes the tip out of publication.

Tips have their own analytics and do not count as trainings. See Content analytics.

And when creating content does not give you what you expected: Common problems: creating content.
