Comments and discussion spaces

Learners exchange in several places on the platform: in the comment area of a capsule, under posts in the feed and, as part of coaching, in a private conversation with their coach. This article describes where these exchanges take place and how to set up comments and reactions from the back-office.

What learners can do with a comment

In the input field, a learner can attach a capsule or a tip to their comment, mention another learner and dictate their text.

Under a published comment, they can use Reply and Like. The comment options, shown as ”…”, let them Copy, Remove and Report the comment. Learners can only remove their own comments.

A published comment can no longer be edited, either by its author or from the back-office. To correct a text, the learner removes the comment and posts it again.

When a comment is written in a language other than the one used by the application, the Translate action appears.

Where learners comment

The comment area of a capsule

On the home page of a capsule, See all comments opens the thread of comments attached to the capsule. While going through the capsule, the Comment area button opens the thread of the card displayed on screen.

A learner can therefore comment on the whole capsule or on a specific card of a notion. These comments are visible to every learner who has access to the capsule.

To read and moderate these comments from the back-office, see Collecting learner feedback.

The main feed and communities

Tips posted in the feed (video, news, question or document) are commented on the same way, and the comments appear under the tip concerned. For the feed settings, see The feed.

In the feed of a community, only the members of the community see the tips and can comment on them. To set up a community, see the communities section of The feed.

The conversation in a coaching

The Conversation tab of a coaching is private between a learner and their coach. They exchange there throughout the coaching, alongside the milestones and the expected skills. To set up coaching, see Configuring coaching.

Setting up comments and reactions

Comments and reactions are set up on a single page: Configuration > Social Learning > User generated content, in the User interaction block. Turn this block on with its button: while it is off, the settings below it are not displayed.

Allow Reactions lets learners react under posts such as news tips, video tips or capsules, by marking them as “like” or “useful”.

When this setting is on, the Display learners interactions checkbox appears below it. It shows in the application the list of learners and their reaction when a learner clicks on the number of reactions of a post or a comment.

Allow Comments gives learners five actions under posts such as tips and capsules:

  • post a comment
  • answer other comments
  • like a comment
  • share a capsule or a tip
  • mention another user

Writing to a learner from the back-office

From a user’s record, Send message opens an individual message, sent by Push notification and/or by Email. Use it for an individual follow-up: to remind a learner of a deadline, answer a request or support a learner who is behind on their learning path.

To reach a whole population, use a notification instead: see Notifying learners of a new release.
