Creating a capsule-based certificate
Rights required: Access/edit certificates, in the Reward section of the Animation rights. Without it the Certificate tab does not appear; without any reward right at all, the Reward menu entry and the Rewards statistics tab both disappear. See Assigning rights.
A capsule-based certificate starts from the content taken: you designate capsules, you set a success percentage, and the platform awards the certificate to every learner who meets both conditions. The other tab, By skill, starts from the level reached and ignores the path followed. For the shared frame, see Certificates.
From Reward → Certificate, open the By capsule tab and click Create a certificate.
What triggers the award
The platform awards the certificate when two conditions are met on every selected capsule:
- the capsule is completed, meaning 100% progress;
- the success rate of that same attempt reaches the percentage the certificate requires.
⚠️ Completing is not passing, and the certificate needs both. A capsule taken to the end but below the threshold does not count. A capsule passed but abandoned halfway does not count either.
⚠️ The threshold is not applied to an average. Each capsule is checked on its own. Three capsules at 90% and one at 40% award nothing when the threshold is 50%, because a single capsule below the threshold blocks the whole certificate.
💡 The certificate’s threshold is its own, not the capsule’s. The Success percentage to validate capsule set under Success of the capsule decides whether the capsule is passed. The certificate compares the rate obtained with its own threshold, and the two can diverge. A learner can therefore pass a capsule set at 50% with 60% and still miss a certificate that requires 80%.
A capsule that contains no quiz records no success rate. In that case the platform relies on the capsule being completed, so a certificate can still be awarded on content without questions.
The conditions are re-evaluated when a learner finishes a capsule. A certificate already held is not awarded a second time: only its expiry reopens the case, under the rules described in Validity, expiry and renewal.
Activity completed before the certificate existed
⚠️ Creating a certificate does not award it for work already done. Learners who completed the capsules before the certificate was created receive nothing automatically, because the award is evaluated when a capsule is finished and no capsule has been finished since.
To settle these learners, ask them to replay one of the capsules included in the certificate. Taking it to the end above the threshold triggers a new evaluation, and the certificate is awarded if the other capsules also meet the conditions.
A validity period narrows this further. On a first award, the platform only considers activity more recent than the validity period, so a certificate valid for one year ignores a capsule completed eighteen months ago.
The five steps
The wizard has five steps: Information (department, template, title, printed description), Capsules, Period and Validity, Signature and Notifications.
When you create a certificate, the wizard moves step by step and the button stays inactive while a step is incomplete: it needs a Certification title and at least one capsule. When you edit an existing certificate, all five steps are directly reachable. The title, the Certificate description (300 characters) and the image are entered for each language.
Picking the capsules and setting the threshold
The Associated tracks selector above the list only filters the capsules shown. It adds no capsule to the certificate by itself.
⚠️ Changing that filter unselects nothing. Capsules you already ticked stay selected even once they drop out of view, so rely on the counter rather than on the visible list.
Then set Percentage of success to obtain the certificate. The value is between 20 and 100, and it is 50 by default.
The training period
Training period takes a start date and an end date. It is not only a mention printed on the document: outside that window the platform stops awarding the certificate, even to a learner who meets the conditions.
The option Certificate to be awarded only during the training period. adds a second check. It requires the date on which the learner met the conditions to fall inside the period, which rules out a learner whose qualifying activity took place before the start date.
The displayed duration
By default the document prints the sum of the capsule durations, and the screen states this. Turn on Customization of certificate duration and enter a Training duration in hours and minutes when that total does not describe the real course, for example on a programme that mixes classroom sessions with online capsules.
The signature
Add signature opens Full name and Job title, both mandatory once the option is on, plus an optional image.
⚠️ The signature won’t be saved in the media library, as the tooltip states. Keep the image file on your side, as you will need it again for another certificate.
What the certificate does not do on its own
Creating the certificate does not draw a document. The score, the success rate and the period print only if you placed the matching zones on a template. A certificate without a template still exists: it appears in the learner’s profile, dated (Succeeded on), and the learner downloads it as a PDF, but you have no formatted record to file. A capsule that counts towards a certificate indicates this on its page.
The notification email goes only to the recipients ticked at the Notifications step. If nobody is ticked, the certificate is still awarded but no message is sent.
Going further
- Validity, expiry and renewal: the next step of the wizard, the one that decides whether the certificate has to be renewed.
- Certificate templates: so the score, the period and the duration have somewhere to print.
- Sending, resending and exporting: the Notifications step in detail, and the compliance exports.
- Creating a skill-based certificate: the other tab, for when mastery rather than content taken is what counts.
