Content distribution by team leaders
A team leader recommends a capsule to their own learners from the app, without opening the back office. The recommendation grants access to the capsule, so this is a distribution channel in its own right: it starts from the field rather than from the training team. This article describes what travels through it, what the learner sees, and what it does not replace.
⚠️ Prerequisites: the Content distribution setting must be enabled in Configuration › Social Learning › Team management, and the person must be a team leader of at least one group.
This channel is used from the learner app and does not rely on back-office permission profiles. For the distribution rights granted in the back office, see Who can distribute what.
What a team leader can distribute
Capsules, one at a time. On a capsule they can already see, the action menu offers Recommend the capsule. The action is part of the learner app and is available on web and on mobile.
The Recommend to window then opens two tabs, each showing a count:
- Groups, with a Search for groups field.
- Learners, with a Search for learners field.
The action button reads Recommend, shows Recommending… while the recommendation is being saved, then Recommended. Selecting it again removes the recommendation.
Nothing else travels through this channel: no track, no tip, no document.
The two conditions for the action to appear
Recommend the capsule only appears when both conditions are met:
- The Content distribution setting is enabled in Configuration › Social Learning › Team management.
- The person is a team leader of at least one group. The role is granted in the group’s advanced options, under Roles › Define the team leader(s). See Assigning roles in a group.
The role alone opens nothing here, and neither does the setting alone.
What the learner gets
Recommended capsules land in the Selected content widget on the home page, in two sections: For me for what was recommended to them by name, Communities for what was recommended to one of their groups. In the content list, the equivalent filters are called For me and For my communities.
Below the Content distribution setting, the Selected contents widget block decides what stays visible in those two sections once the capsule has been played:
- Hide all completed capsules
- Hide only succeeded capsules (keep failed visible)
- Show all capsules
⚠️ Recommending grants access. A recommended capsule becomes accessible to the learner even if no back-office distribution had given it to them. That is the intended effect, and it is what makes this channel impossible to ignore in a distribution plan.
Following what was recommended
The team leader follows the result from the My team tab of the learner platform. If that tab is missing, add it to the menu in Configuration › Customization › Menu.
In My team, the Capsules tab lists the capsules started by at least one learner of the group together with the recommended capsules, with Completion by learners. On an individual learner’s page, the Recommended capsules block separates what was recommended to the learner from what was recommended to their group.
What it does not do
Recommending warns nobody: the capsule appears in the widget, with no notification sent. To announce it, see Notifying learners of new content.
A recommendation makes nothing mandatory. Compliance stays with a track distributed from the back office.
Assigning seats on a track is a different mechanism, set from the back office. See Invitation-only tracks.
The reach of a recommendation to a group
A capsule recommended to a group also reaches the learners of its sub-groups: a learner receives what was recommended to their own groups and to the groups above them in the tree. On a deep tree, recommending to a top-level group opens the capsule to the whole branch.
⚠️ The grain of the group decides the reach. A team leader covering fifty learners recommends to fifty people in one gesture. Set the grain before enabling the setting, not after.
