Getting started as a content editor

You are in the right place if

You create and edit any content - including content written by other people - and your changes go live with no validation step. You also track all the statistics.

⚠️ You create freely and you see everything. Don’t confuse this with the Content creator profile: someone with that profile only creates their own capsules, submits them for validation and only tracks their own statistics. If that description fits you better, see Getting starter as a trainer.

What you see

Your menu carries Home, My content, Content management, Animation, Users/Groups and Statistics. Any screens outside your profile simply don’t appear.

What you can do

  1. Create and edit all content, including other people’s capsules. Your publications go live directly, with no validation.

  2. Promote a capsule. It then appears in the Featured capsules widget of the learner platform, until the date you choose.

  3. Translate your own capsules. You are not able to translate capsules created by other people, even though you can edit those capsules.

  4. Manage user groups: view them, edit them, create new ones.

  5. Send notifications to learners, with no group restriction.

  6. Track all statistics: content, tracks, users, skills not just those for your own capsules, which lets you see what works for other people.

  7. Run the forum of your capsules. Only yours: you don’t have access to the forum for capsules created by other people, even though you can edit those capsules.

  8. View tracks, all of them, without being able to change them.

What is off-limits

  • Any configuration of your company’s account, and the back-office access management that comes with it.

  • Creating tracks. You can see them in Content management, but you can neither create new ones nor edit existing ones. Someone else assembles your capsules into tracks and distributes them.

  • Publishing to the catalogue. You can’t open a piece of content to every learner, no matter their group. Distribution is limited to whichever groups you assign.

  • Managing categories and skills. You can file your capsules under existing categories and skills, but the frameworks themselves are managed elsewhere. If the classification you need doesn’t exist, ask whoever granted your back-office access to create it.

  • Managing campaigns, certificates and badges.

  • Managing tips and product sheets.

⚠️ The limit that surprises people most: you have no control over whether your content reaches a track. Someone else decides what goes into a track and when. So make it a habit to flag every new piece of content to whoever manages tracks. That person is your ongoing point of contact for getting your work distributed.

💡 Your back-office profile determines what you can do; your department determines what you can do it on and at which level. Two people with the same profile therefore don’t see the same content. See Understanding custom permissions.

Where to start

  1. Look at what already exists in My content. Reworking a capsule that’s already performing well is a faster way to learn than starting from a blank page.
  2. Create a capsule and test it from a learner account.
  3. Find out who manages tracks. Without reaching out to that person, your capsules will never make it into a track.
